Robert Morrison, the pioneer missionary to China, was born in Morpeth, Northumberland, England on January 5, 1782. After 27 years of ministries at Macau and Canton, Morrison died at Canton on August 1, 1834. His body was moved to Macau and was buried in the Old Protestant Cemetery beside the tomb of his first wife Mary who died in June 10, 1821.

Inside the MMC

Centennial Memorial was set up on August 1, 1934 beside Morison's tomb
after one hundred years of his death.

Beside the tomb of Morrison is the tomb of Mary, Morrison;s first wife.
Morrison met Mary Morton in Macau in 1809 and they married on February 20, 1809.
The smaller peace of grave stone in between was for their first son James who was born and died
the same day on March 1, 1811.

The inscription on the grave stone was sacred to the memory of Mary Morrison.

The three tombs from left to right are Robert Morrison, Mary Morrison, and
John Robert Morrison (馬儒翰), the elder son who was born in April 17, 1814
and died in Hong Kong on August 29, 1843.
On John's grave stone, only his name "John Robert Morrison" was inscribed.

James Morrison's grave stone stands between the tombs of his parents.
